The Hassle: I download lots of free software, but I'm worried about picking up adware. What do you suggest?

The Fix: Fire up your standard defensive shields (firewall, antivirus, and antispyware); then add an extra coat of armor. I recommend giving Cyberhawk Basic a try. Unlike antivirus software that checks for virus signaA-tures, Cyberhawk watches for and blocks suspicious behavior as it occurs.

But Cyberhawk doesn't play well with all computers, so I have two alternatives that thwart malware by running your browser, e-mail, and instant messaging apps in a protected sandbox. That way, you can end a session and easily reverse potential damage to your system. GreenBorder Pro with SafeFiles throws a border around your browser and puts downloaded files into a special folder, so that you can run them in a protected session. At $30 per year, it's not dirt cheap, but you do get a 15-day free trial. Or try Sandboxie, a free but complicated tool that quarantines downloads and their installation routines in a sandbox until you decide they're not harmful. Warning: Be sure to try each program separately.

The Hassle: I'm an avid downloader, but I hate downloading files one at a time.

The Fix: You need a download manager. FlashGet is a remarkable free tool. Click a link to download a file, or just copy the link into the clipboard, and FlashGet pops up to perform the download. Even handier: Drag and drop multiple links onto the program's floating dropzone. The default setting can download ten files simultaneously and resumes the transfer if it's disrupted midstream by, say, a browser or unlikely (ha!) PC crash. If you have a manager but it won't work with Firefox, use FlashGot.

Quick Tip: Have you ever happened across a site loaded with zillions of images or videos that you wanted? Forget download managers: The tool you need is WinHTTrack Website Copier; it saves an entire Web site to your hard drive.

The Hassle: Is there a good way to download YouTube or Google video files?

The Fix: Many sites contain Flash-based streaming videos that are yours for the taking. Just use the Web-based toolsat KeepVid.com or VideoDownload.com. Both sites have links you can add to your browser's toolbar to handle drag-and-drop video downloading. For multiple YouTube videos, download TubeMe. To watch the files, use VLC or FLV Player--or convert the videos into AVI files at the Online FLV Converter site.

I download lots of files, and I'm guessing you do too. Besides videos, I'm always looking for smart utilities and trialware to grab.

You might want to take a few minutes and read my just-released Hassle-Free PC column, coincidentally titled, "Top Tricks for Safe, Smart Downloads." It's loaded with recommendations for safer, easier downloading.

Downloading Commercial Software
I remember walking into an Egghead store, a long-gone chain filled with shelves of what also doesn't exist much anymore: shrink-wrapped software. Downloading commercial apps has become the norm--and it's hazardous. If you have to reinstall the app, and didn't keep a copy, you may be charged a fee for a fresh download. It's called an Extended Download Service and it's crazy, I know, but Symantec and Broderbund both do it. The first thing you might do once you download a program is to copy the registration code into a text file and then burn the software onto a CD. If your drive's big enough, just stash the downloaded software in a folder (I cleverly call mine "originals"). I need to be a tad more organized, so I created a spreadsheet that lists the name of the program, the version, the registration code, and the download URL. If you're worried, you can password-protect the Excel spreadsheet.

Third Deleting the virus: ________________________________________ The easiest part, all u have to do is to delete the following files from your computer ( don't
forget how u should open the drivers or u will have to do it from the start )
1.C:\windwos\SVCHOST.EXE 2.C:\windwos\SVCHOST.inf or ini (probably they will be together side by side) 3.C:\RAVMON.EXE 4.C:\Autorun.inf Then check the rest of the hard drivers you have on your computer ( D, E, or whatever) for
the files Number (3 and 4)
Restart your computer and run XoftspySE latest Version (4.31.232) u can download it from the
internet.

When you try to open Task Manager, the following error may occur:

Resolution
This error is caused if the DisableTaskMgr restriction is enabled. To enable Task Manager, try one of these methods:
IMPORTANT: If this restriction was enabled in your system without you doing anything or without your knowledge, then it's highly likely that a Virus has blocked the usage of Task Manager in your system by enabling the DisableTaskMgr policy via the registry. I strongly suggest that you perform a thorough checkup of your system immediately. Steps listed in the Resolution section of this article helps you unblock the Task Manager, but that does not remove the Virus (if any) from your system.

· Double-click the Remove Task Manager option.
· Set the policy to Not Configured.

The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator

Message: "The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator"
When you attempt to run CMD.exe or a batch file, you may receive the message "The command prompt has been disabled by your administrator". This is caused by restrictions placed in Registry. DisableCMD value is set to 1 or via Group Policy. To enable Task Manager, try any of these methods:
Method 1: Using the console registry tool
Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)
REG add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System /v DisableCMD /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Method 2: Edit the registry directly
Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
In the right-pane, double-click DisableCMD and set it's data to 0
Method 3: Using Group Policy Editor in Windows XP Professional.
Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.
Navigate to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System
Double-click the Prevent access to the command prompt
You can then disable or set the policy to Not Configured. Disabling or setting this policy to Not Configured should solve the problem.

You can also put cmd /k ipconfig in a text file and give it a .bat extension to make a batch script so you just need to click on the file to execute it instead of going to the start menu.
